Disney Heads Back Down Rabbit Hole for ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Sequel

Frankly, I’m surprised this didn’t happen sooner with as much money as Alice in Wonderland made in 2010 (over $1 billion worldwide) and all the name-dropping Disney does for the movie on various films that its producers have gone on to make. Variety has word that Disney is developing a sequel to Tim Burton’s take on the classic tale that featured Mia Wasikowska as the title character, but advertised Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter like nobody’s business. Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King writer Linda Woolverton will script the sequel for Disney (she most recently wrote Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie). More below! There’s no details on the story for the sequel, but since Burton’s film was only inspired by the characters from Lewis Carroll’s two books Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and the sequel Through the Looking Glass.
