Fox Searchlight Greenlights Sequel to ‘Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’

It looks like the charming geriatric tale The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel gets the honor of being one of those rare comedies that gets a sequel. Movie Scope has learned the 2011 film from director John Madden and writer Ol Parker has a greenlit follow-up in development at Fox Searchlight. Based on Deborah Moggach’s novel These Foolish Things, the film followed a group of British retirees – composed of British talents like Judi Dench, Tom Wilkinson, Maggie Smith and Bill Nighy – who decide to take their retirement to less the expensive and exotic India at the restore Marigold Hotel that has since fallen apart. Parker will return to script the sequel (though there’s no book for it to be based on this time), but it’s not clear if Madden will return to direct.
