Jason Bateman Making Directorial Debut with Spelling Bee Comedy

Audiences have enjoyed plenty of Jason Bateman on the small screen with “Arrested Development” (with new episodes on the way) and on the big screen in films like Horrible Bosses, The Change-Up, Paul and Up in the Air. But now Bateman will also go behind the camera with a new indie comedy called Bad Words. Variety says the actor will make his directorial debut with the film that follows a bitter thirty-something who uses a loophole in the system to enter a national kids’ spelling bee. It sounds like Bateman will also play the lead character in the film written by newcomer Andrew Dodge whose script made the Black List in 2011. This won’t be the first time Bateman has gone behind the camera as he previously directed an episode of “Arrested Development” and also an episode of “Family Matters” back in the day.
