Rob Marshall Now Set to Helm ‘Into the Woods’ Adaptation for Disney

After being at the helm of the franchise sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, director Rob Marshall is reteaming with Disney again for an adaptation of the 1980’s Broadway musical Into the Woods from Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. The new project comes at the same time that the director and his producing partner John DeLuca, by way of their LUCAMAR production banner, have signed a two-year first-look deal with Disney as well. However, Marshall is still working on getting the adaptation of The Thin Man with Johnny Depp going, and it’s not clear what will actually end up being his next film. The project is a no-brainer for Disney as THR says include several familiar fairytale characters like Cinderella, Rapunzel and Little Red Riding Hood in the story of a baker who attempts to start a family with his wife.
