Sharlto Copley Now Offered the Villain Role in Spike Lee’s ‘Oldboy’

After running through names like Christian Bale, Clive Owen and Colin Firth, it’s time for someone whose first name doesn’t start with a “C” to enter the race to play the villain in Spike Lee’s remake of Park Chan-wook’s Oldboy. Variety has word that breakout District 9 star and The A-Team member Sharlto Copley has now been offered the role in the revenge thriller which already has Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen set to star. For those unfamiliar, the story follows a man kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years for unknown reasons. Upon his perplexing release, he sets out to find out just who held him hostage and why. Copley has only starred in one major film since District 9 and that’s the summer blockbuster The A-Team. However, he’s got Europa and Elysium coming soon.
