Watch: Full Subtitled Trailer for Ghibli’s Film ‘From Up on Poppy Hill’
“We live in the midst of contradiction.” I love Studio Ghibli. The release of their new movies in America is delayed roughly a year or two, meaning we get last year’s new movie this year (or maybe next). Their latest is From Up on Poppy Hill, or Kokuriko-zaka kara, directed by Hayao Miyazaki’s son Goro Miyazaki, of Tales from Earthsea previously. Poppy Hill premiered at TIFF last year and is perfectly timed to debut now, as it’s a sweet love story that takes place the year before the 1964 Tokyo Summer Olympics. It’s more of a charmer, a sweet drama without fantasy elements, but it looks as good as Ghibli movies always do.
