‘Final Destination’ Director Steve Quale to Helm ‘Cat 6’ Tornado Movie

I was wondering when we’d see this! With all the rather deadly tornadoes this year, I expected Hollywood to take an interest again and they have. We’ve reported on a project previously titled Category 6 (or Cat 6 or Category Six), a storm survival thriller being developed by New Line Cinema, who bought a script by John Swetnam. The update today comes from Vulture and says that Final Destination 5 director Steven Quale (who we interviewed here), who was mentored by James Cameron in 3D early on, is now lined up to direct Cat 6. However, they’re calling this a tornado project, not a “found footage hurricane” film like we first said. If this news is indeed true, I think it shows they’re taking this in an interesting direction, potentially more like Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D than Twister, which is unfortuante.
