‘Mama’ Director Taking on Post-Apocalyptic ‘Bird Box’ Adaptation

After hearing that Universal was considering a franchise sprouting from the fantasy horror film Mama, the studio is getting back in business with director Andrés Muschietti for a post-apocalyptic drama called Bird Box. Universal snagged the rights to a manuscript written by Josh Malerman, the frontman of a rock group called The High Strung. The story is slated to be published as a book sometime in 2014 after it was purchased at auction by HarperCollins’ arm Ecco for six figures.
