Mark Ruffalo Lands Athletic ‘Foxcatcher’ Role Alongside Steve Carell
The real life story of John du Pont ends pretty wildly, and Moneyball director Bennett Miller intends to tell that story in an upcoming film called Foxcatcher. Variety reports Mark Ruffalo has taken the role of David Schultz, an Olympic wrestler and friend of John du Pont (Steve Carell) who was shot and killed by du Pont himself back in 1996. We previously thought this part would be played by Channing Tatum (since he’s so damn fit), but now Tatum is playing Schultz’s younger brother Michael, also a professional wrestler. After Schultz’s murder, du Pont locked himself in his mansion for two days to negotiate the terms with police. Du Pont, a wealthy paranoid schizophrenic, built a training camp for wrestlers called Team Foxcatcher in Pennsylvania in the 90s. There was no motive established for why he killed Schultz, but Ruffalo has been great at portraying characters sympathetic to mental instability …
