Monahan Scripting ‘Sympathy for Lady Vengeance’ for Charlize Theron
While Spike Lee is busy working on his own remake of Park Chan-wook’s Oldboy, another film from the South Korean filmmaker is getting the remake treatment, but it’s not exactly surprising news. Way back in March of 2008 we heard that Charlize Theron would star in and produce a remake of Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, part of Chan-wook’s Vengeance trilogy that also includes Oldboy, but there hasn’t been any news since. Now a press release has announced the project again with a script coming from William Monahan (The Departed), who most recently took to directing for the first time with London Boulevard. For those unfamiliar, the film follows a woman who spends 13-years imprisoned for the kidnap and murder of a 6-year old boy and upon release, seeks revenge on the man that was really responsible for the boy’s death.
