‘Contagion’ Writer Will Script ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ Sequel

Following the success of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, there was plenty of buzz about a sequel coming together sooner than later. Director Rupert Wyatt had the option for a sequel built into his initial contract, and last November, Fox made sure to lock down Andy Serkis to reprise his role as the revolutionary ape Caesar. Since then, development has been somewhat stagnant. But now THR reports Contagion and The Bourne Ultimatum writer Scott Z. Burns has been hired to script the sequel picking up after the apes have started to overthrow San Francisco and a virus starts to spread across the world and destroy civilization. Having the writer behind Contagion script the sequel which would include the advancement of the virus that begins to spread in the end credits sounds pretty perfect, and he also knows action after Bourne Ultimatum.
