Craig Gillespie in Talks to Adapt ‘Flamingo Thief’ Starring Will Ferrell

Back in February it was revealed that Will Ferrell would star in an adaptation Flamingo Thief, based on Susan Trott’s novel of the same name. Ben Stiller is producing through his Red Hour Films production banner with the story following a man named Tim Forrester, a lawyer who takes on the strangely satisfying activity of stealing flamingo figurines after his wife leaves him. The film didn’t have a director at the time the story surfaced, but now Variety has learned that Craig Gillespie, who went from indie comedies like Lars and the Real Girl to campy horror comedy with the remake of Fright Night in 2011, will direct the film. The book has Forrester as a multimillionaire Juice King whose son died a year ago, but it’s not clear if either of those plot elements have made it into this adaptation.
