George Clooney to Direct Nazi-Stolen Art Caper ‘The Monuments Men’

Not only did The Ides of March sit at the top of my favorite ten films of 2011, but the political drama from director George Clooney is garnering plenty of awards buzz as the Golden Globes are a week away and the Oscar nominations are looming right around the corner. Now his next project will take him back to the past as The Wrap reports Clooney will write and direct an adaptation Robert M. Edsel’s book The Monuments Men, the true story of a hand-picked group of art experts chosen by the U.S. government to retrieve artwork stolen by the Nazis. Clooney is co-writing with his longtime producing partner Grant Heslov again as well. In addition, Clooney will also star in the film which is almost like the inverse of Ocean’s 11, the film which spawned three sequels, one of which saw the gang stealing some paintings from another infamous thief. …
