Sam Raimi Not Directing Big Screen Adaptation of ‘World of Warcraft’

It’s been over two years since we’ve heard any solid updates on Sam Raimi turning the popular MMORPG video game World of Warcraft into a feature film, and three years since the news broke. Most of the time, that means the project is dormant or stuck in development hell. That seems to be confirmed by the fact that Raimi, while hyping Oz: The Great and Powerful at Comic-Con last week, spoke to Crave Online and told them he was no longer attached to direct the film, mostly because of his commitment to head back to the Emerald City for the Disney film. That seems weird as nothing has progressed since he took that job instead. Legendary Pictures, Warner Brothers, Atlas Entertainment and Blizzard Entertainment have stayed pretty quiet on the film project, so there’s no telling what will happen with the film, said to be written by Saving Private Ryan scribe …
